A Refined Industrial Machine.

Cassiel_II is MAKINA’s newest flagship - a mechanical artifact from a future not yet written. As the brand’s first timepiece with an automatic chronograph function, it treats the complication not as a nostalgic motorsport reference, but as a study in industrial form. Built around an entirely new case geometry, the watch balances rough sandblasted planes with polished accents, giving its angular body visual weight and refinement. Cassiel_II rejects the familiar order of traditional dial configurations, replacing flat registers with layered displays and rotating elements that appear embedded within the object itself. Monolithic in presence yet refined in expression, it becomes a contemporary piece of industrial machinery disciplined into wrist-worn form.

The Machine’s Chassis.

The case is faceted, substantial, and sharply defined. Cassiel_II is a 42mm watch with a 40mm bezel diameter, 48mm lug-to-lug length, and a thickness of 14mm excluding the glass, or 15mm including the sapphire crystal. Its thickness is visually reduced on the wrist by the angular case profile and tapered case back. A rough sand-blasted texture creates a frosted, sculptural finish, while polished trims cut through the geometry to add contrast and refinement. A screw-down crown reinforces its 100m water resistance. The integrated rubber strap continues the same logic: deeply molded and dimensional, with upper and lower strap designs that deliberately break from symmetry, carrying distinct patterns rather than simply mirroring each other. The result is an unconventional strap aesthetic that is deliberate and feels like an extension of both case and dial.

Its Mechanical Terrain.

.

The bevelled sapphire crystal’s sloped edge introduces a subtle play of refraction around the perimeter, bending light across the minute track and giving the dial a sense of depth before the eye reaches its layered construction. Finished in matte black with cool graphite-gray undertones, the dial avoids unnecessary glare, allowing its mechanical landscape, recessed channels, and rotating discs to take focus. Continuing MAKINA’s visual language, Cassiel_II features two-pronged hour and minute hands, while cut-out discs reveal information as they turn, replacing traditional subdials with moving apertures that feel integrated into the dial’s structure. Polished metallic hour indexes add sharp points of shimmer against its industrial terrain, while the application of lume transforms the watch in low light, exposing a hidden network of markers, hands, and rotating displays that gives the dial a second life after dark.

An Engine with History and Backbone
.

Inside Cassiel_II is the Valjoux/ETA 7750 automatic chronograph movement, one of the most enduring mechanical chronograph calibers of the modern watch industry. Introduced in the 1970s and known for its robustness, serviceability, and distinctive operating feel, the 7750 has powered everything from purpose-built sports watches to high-end Swiss chronographs. Its cam-operated chronograph system, automatic winding, running seconds, chronograph minutes and hours, and day-date capability make it a movement built for reliability and mechanical force. Its industrial backbone is customized with MAKINA’s new black rotor, finished with a sunburst pattern that adds motion, shadow, and contrast beneath the caseback.
